The most important point to be considered in volute casing centrifugal pumps is cavitation. Cavitation is the situation where the absolute pressure of the liquid in the pump falls below the evaporation pressure under the same conditions. Under these conditions, small gas bubbles form in the liquid. When the bubbles containing liquid vapor and dissolved air in the water come to the region of the pressure higher than the evaporation pressure, they burst violently, puncturing the surface of the metal and reducing the capacity of the pump over time.Therefore, cavitation shortens the life of the pump and causes noisy operation. It is an undesirable situation for the pump.

Conditions that cause cavitation;

-Liquid velocity in the suction line. (High speeds may cause cavitation)

-Liquid temperature. (High liquid temperatures can cause cavitation)

-High pump speeds. (Too high pump speed may cause cavitation)

– Molten gases in the liquid (molten gases in the liquid may cause cavitation)
